The One Simple Key to Success as an Entrepreneur
You may be surprised by my answer to what it takes to be successful! I worked for a lot of years and made a decent amount of money. In fact, many would have considered me “successful” but it just wasn’t enough for me! I had a true lightbulb moment and it changed my life! This article explains what happened, what I believe leads to true success, and how you, too, can get there.
Working Hard Does Not Equal Success!
By my mid-fifties I was running two separate businesses. I was working hard and doing a lot of things every day. My days were full, my businesses were functional but I wasn’t making the amount of money I wanted to make. Worst of all, I didn’t really know for sure what I needed to do to change this!
But my instincts were telling me that something had to change! I felt this overwhelming dissatisfaction growing stronger and stronger and the discomfort of feeling it day after day, year after year, was building up inside of me. Really it was almost like when you have an itchy rash and you just want to jump out of your skin. I wanted to jump out of my body at the time because where I was inside this body at that time did not feel right.
I knew there was more I could be doing. I knew it. I just knew I was under-serving myself.
This recognition was a turning point for me. I felt an honesty within that went like this: I WANT MONEY. I really, really, really wanted to make more money. And my focus became just like an arrow. I knew what I wanted and I was willing to do whatever I needed to get there!
The true mindset shift for me was acknowledging what I really wanted. And then accepting it, even if it wasn’t (in my mind at the time) socially acceptable for a woman to “want money”. Once I knew what I really wanted, it was not an option to not work towards that goal. Of course, it was still hard work but my mindset had shifted, the work felt fulfilling again, and I could see the change in my bank account.
So when people ask you, how can you be successful? The answer is very simple. The answer is YOU HAVE TO REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT IT. This might sound too simple to many people, and they may say, of course, I want it. But it’s really a matter of how much do you really want it? If you want it bad enough, you’ll be willing to do the work. And you’ll be able to allow yourself to want it, to say it, to not run from it.
So, as you look at your own life and business right now, how do you feel? Whether you're thinking of starting a business; already have one and it's not quite where you want it to be; or even if it is where you want it to be -- how much you want it is going to equal the level of exhilaration and success in your business. So that is the answer. How can you be successful? You have to REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT IT.
