Why You Need a Business Coach
I would never be at this level of success today without my business coach. Hiring her was the best thing I ever did for myself and it’s paid off so much I can’t even tell you! Her advice transformed my sales, my mindset, and my lifestyle. Here’s why you need a coach and how to find the right person.
Good Advice Gives Good Results
You don’t know all the answers! Sure, you know your business inside and out but you don’t know all the other things that help grow the business. Your coach does! That’s her job. As I’ve shared with you in other blogs, I own Back from Bali, a women’s resort wear clothing line that I design, source, and import from Bali, mostly into the U.S. I primarily sell these products through Amazon. From the beginning, my business did well but hiring a seasoned coach and mentor really ricocheted me into 7-figure success.
This isn’t a one-and-done relationship! I have been working with her for the last five to six years. And I mean working regularly. This means regularly paying her, having frequent one-on-one conversations, exchanging lots of emails and phone calls, and running ideas by her. I hired her for two reasons: she is an Amazon expert and she and I clicked personally.
This last piece is important! We are all bombarded with coaches and consultants promising the moon. And they all offer that “magic” thing that will instantly give you success (a mentoring group, a webinar, a one-time consulting call, etc.). While these may be good ways to vet potential coaches, you are not going to find a one-stop quick answer. You must be willing to put time into the relationship so she can get to know you and your business.
You are going to be working closely with this person, you need to trust her on a personal level because she may have to tell you some hard truths. You have to trust that she knows what she’s talking about and has your best interests at heart.
So how do you find your coach? Like I’ve said many times: hire the person who has been where you are now and is where you want to be! She will lead the way because she’s already done it. Start by asking your business friends, join online groups in your niche, do some research. Once you find a few candidates, visit their social media and watch what’s happening – not only in what they post but in how they interact with everyone and what types of people are showing up consistently. Do they share your values? Are they looking for the same type of coaching or mentoring you’re interested in? Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Beware of those out there – and there are a lot of them – that offer coaching but haven’t achieved that success themselves. It's not that these people can't help you but they will never be able to ricochet you into the level of success you want. They are at (or frankly below) your level. You need an expert who’s gone through it and found success. You need somebody who has taken the steps in your industry and made themselves a phenomenal success. That's the kind of coach you want to have. That's the kind of person you want to have to lead you. That is what you want to look for. By surrounding ourselves with these amazing people who have already done it, we’ll have a guide to show us the way.
Now that I’ve achieved the 7-figure mark and built my business, I’d love to share what I know works. I offer Business Consulting on a limited basis, send me an email if you’d like to learn more.
